Our funding
Participation in sport provides blind and partially sighted people with opportunities to integrate into society, to build peer group friendships, to build confidence and self-esteem as well as gaining valuable physical exercise.
Metro is organized and run entirely by volunteers. We have a Fundraising Officer, Carol McFetridge, whose main role is to sell advertising in the Annual Metro Athletics Championships programme. With prudent management we have built up a small reserve so that we can continue to support our current activities with confidence. If you would like to know more about Metro’s funding please e-mail our Treasurer at eamonn.fetton@metroblindsport.org
We are a member of the Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB), so you can give to us with confidence. To learn more about FRSB and the standards we have signed up to, visit the FRSB website

Ambitious for the future
But we are ambitious for the future – we want to provide more support for our individual members and we want to move our club to a new level, taking a leading role in the development of sport for blind and partially sighted people. We want to:
• Fund a two-year development project to engage blind and partially sighted children and young people in sport.
• Fund the development of a special ‘sound ball’ for the modified version of tennis that is becoming increasingly popular.
• Fund our thriving cricket and bowls teams to take part in international events.
• Fund permanent part time administrative support to ensure that we grow and develop on a sound footing.
To achieve these things we need your support.
Our supporters
We would like to thank our many supporters who have given us donations in all shapes and sizes and all we can say is “keep it coming!” Donations for 2011 include:
• £9,000 from the Primary Club towards the costs of our cricket, bowls and junior activities.
• £6,000 from the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association (GDBA) towards the costs of running our 2011 Metro Athletics Championships.
• £2,000 from Zurich Bank towards the cost of sending a team to take part in the Ridderen ski competition in Norway.
Thank you!!
